Daftar
Re-daftar
Nedim Kufi is an Iraqi-Dutch 2d/3d graphic designer, based and works in the Netherlands. At the end of 2004 he decided to create an intellectual space with the project (Daftar). He established Daftar as a visual online magazine to share his vision and thoughts with a couple of Iraqi friends based in Sweden (Farouk Yousuf and Amar Daowd). At the beginning it was written in Arabic and within a couple of years Daftar was publishing serious visual essays on cultural experience. Daftar was regularly published online until it actively moved through Catherine David’s Project "Iraqi Equation" 2006 an exhibition from Berlin (KunstWerk). Daftar also went to Barcelona (through the Tapies Foundation) and on to the UMEA University in Sweden in which Daftar was pasted on the wall to be browsed by the non-Arabic reader. This project pushed Daftar to be later be written in English, whereby Daftar was then adopted by Rashad Salim in London, and Talal Refit in Germany. Nedim Kufi says “Today, I feel quite optimistic when I decide to "redaftar" (start again) with the new daftar theme (garden your mind) which aims to continue visual ideas as a diary. I think we need a meeting point. That point could be a picture, which in my opinion, is essential and remains the language. At the end of the day we collect a number of ideas under one ceiling, one universal feeling. Feel free, feel home you are the welcomed in your daftar.”
